B.C. government announced province-wide Covid-19 health restrictions to start on
December 20. To control the spread of the Omicron variant, restrictions have been
imposed on indoor gatherings and large venues, sports tournaments are suspended,
and organized New Year’s Eve events are cancelled. While our club has cancelled
indoor gatherings, yet again, and its 2022 Wild Game Banquet for a second time, our
outdoor shooting ranges will remain open.

Here at the Salmon Arm Fish and Game Club we’re lucky. With the approval of the
Mayor in March 2020, we remained open during the pandemic because the sports
we enjoy are all outdoors. By now, you know the drill. Please continue to social
distance and carry masks with you to the shooting range in case you need them. The
BC government website states, “outdoor gatherings are safer” and “proper
ventilation” (the outdoors) is key to preventing the spread of Covid-19.

At any one time there may only be a few people scattered on the different shooting
ranges, all located on 160 acres. Our activity logs show us that maintaining social
distancing in the outdoors is easy; however, maintaining social distancing indoors at
our clubhouse is not so easy. We are now back to no general meetings until health
restrictions are eased on indoor gatherings or spring comes and we can hold our
meetings outdoors again. Given the virulence of the Covid-19 Omicron variant, we
are cancelling indoor general meetings and impromptu gatherings in our clubhouse
because the space is an enclosed meeting space.

Neil Wuolle and I created a Covid-19 plan last year. In order to continue renting our
tactical firearms range to the RCMP, the federal government required range
operators to have a plan in place. The plan was revised twice since its creation; if
your are interested in reviewing the plan, it may be found on our homepage.
